KALLAVESI

The lake Kallavesi is the fourth largest in Finland and a central part of the water systems in Northern Savonia. The lake is also part of a broader lake area, attracting with its beautiful landscapes and providing a crucial element of local identity. Kallavesi’s role extends to the local economy, offering natural resources and opportunities for recreational activities.

PUIJO TOWER

In 1856, the astute merchant C.R. Dahlström constructed a 16-meter-tall wooden tower in the area for the purpose of sightseeing. Advancing to 1906, a fashionable 24-meter brick tower adorned the skyline. The current tower, born in 1963 and designed by the creative architect Seppo Ruotsalainen, drew inspiration from the elegant rotating TV and lookout towers prevalent in Central Europe. Utilizing an innovative sliding formwork technique, this substantial concrete giant proudly stands at an impressive height of 75 meters.

MARKET SQUARE

Kuopio Market Square, integral to the city’s history since its founding in 1782, serves as a central hub for socializing, trade, and events. Surrounded by historical landmarks like the Kuopio Cathedral, it has adapted over the years, remaining a lively meeting place for locals and visitors.
